When choosing an exercise mat, there are four key factors to consider: Type, Thickness, Traction, and Travel. Yoga mats require a greater 'stickiness' to help with poses and are often made from PVC, natural rubber, and jute. Pilates and general exercise mats are often constructed of either closed-cell foam or Thermal Plastic Elastomer (TPE) to offer supreme protection against hard surfaces.

Yoga mats tend to be thin so you can feel a strong connection to the ground during poses, although thicker mats are available. Look for a thick mat when purchasing a Pilates or general exercise mat to help support and cushion your workout, protecting the wrists, knees, elbows, and spine.
